24 HRS URINARY CORTISOL

24 HRS URINARY CORTISOL

The 24-hour urinary cortisol test is a laboratory test that measures the levels of cortisol in a person's urine over a period of 24 hours.
Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal gland that plays a role in managing stress and maintaining proper glucose levels in the body.
The test is typically ordered by a healthcare provider to help diagnose and monitor conditions that affect cortisol levels in the body, such as Cushing's syndrome and adrenal gland disorders.
To perform the test, a healthcare provider will provide a special container for collecting urine over a 24-hour period. The person will be asked to collect all of their urine during this time, including any urine that they produce during the night.
At the end of the 24-hour period, the person will return the container to their healthcare provider, who will send it to a laboratory for analysis. The laboratory will measure the levels of cortisol in the urine and compare them to normal ranges.
Abnormal levels of cortisol in the urine may indicate the presence of a medical condition that requires further evaluation and treatment.
The 24-hour urinary cortisol test is not a diagnostic test for diabetes, but people with conditions that affect cortisol levels in the body may be at an increased risk of developing diabetes. It is important for people with these conditions to work with their healthcare provider to manage their condition and reduce their risk of developing diabetes.
